Cyberbullying

Teenagers spend most of their time posting pictures, updating status messages, checking  at friends’ profiles to see what they have been up to, liking on a regular basis.

Internet has also enabled students to socialize with complete strangers from even the remotest parts of the world.

All these have not only gotten them hooked but is also exposing them to trouble that they may find very hard to recover from which is termed as Cyber Bullying or more popularly known as online Bullying.

 

In a recent Global Youth Online Behaviour Survey by Microsoft in 25 countries such as United States, United Kingdom, Australia, Germany, Pakistan, India, Japan etc., has India ranked third in cyber-bullying. Several cases of suicides among adolescents due to online harassment by peers, like the Amanda Todd incident, have been reported around the world.

From studies it was found that over 85% of the sample was accessing cyber space through their smartphones and computers on a regular basis, which has exposed them to the brunt of cyber bullying.

Make children understand the seriousness and of cyberspace and all the evils that comes with it.

Each school must have a counsellor who can help they learn about cyberbullying.

Several students have admitted to being bullied, Parents must carefully monitor their children’s behaviour whether they are being harassed and cornered in cyberspace by the peers activity on cyber space and talk to them openly.
